Yesterday we got news that Smashburger in Dupont shut up shop barely a year after opening and now today, Eater has word that Black & Orange has become yet another burger slinger of the past.

In less than three weeks, the beef and grease will fly as the Crew descends upon the District for the next installment of our never-ending chronicle of Washington, D.C.'s burger inventory. You better check yo'self, fools, Burger Days VII is going down Saturday, October 5.

We're used to trekking around town getting our burger on and while that's fun and all, all that walking cuts into our eating and drinking time. So when the burgers congregate all in one place, it makes us very, very happy.

It's been a while since we had a good old fashioned burger rant but seeing the ridiculous amount of attention given to Zagat's "Best Burgers in D.C." list last week has pushed us to let loose.

As the D.C.-area braces for Hurricane Sandy, burger joints everywhere are battening down the hatches today. All D.C.-area Shake Shacks, BGR The Burger Joints, Black & Oranges and Reston's be right burger are closed today, so you'll have to find your fix elsewhere.

All that hype that D.C. was becoming a 24-hour city seems a bit premature as The Hamilton is no longer an open all-day and all-night spot and U Street's new Black & Orange location has shaved their hours as well. The 14th St. burger joint is no longer open 'til 5 a.m. every night.

The Washington City Paper published their Best of D.C. 2012 Food & Drink winners today and WCP readers selected Black & Orange as the best burger in D.C.

Eighteen burgers from across the country are up for the title of "Most Life-Changing Burger" and the D.M.V. is represented by two area favorites: Arlington's Ray's Hell Burger and D.C.'s Black & Orange.

Black and Orange made a splash with the debut of their new location in the U Street Corridor, slinging out mini-burgers galore to revelers during their VIP grand opening party last night.

Black and Orange breaks the seal on their new spot in the U Street Corridor tonight, and we're particularly thrilled that they're doing it up right with a VIP grand opening party. All burger joints should be welcomed in with such gusto.

And just like that, the total number of new D.C. burger joints this year will double in less than two weeks.

While Shake Shack has been making the bellies of the Crew and many others plenty happy, not everyone is thrilled with the N.Y.C. transplant.
