Tonight, the Crew gets down and dirty with the out-of-town beef at the Blue Moon Burger Bash in New York City. Our favorite event of the New York City Wine & Food Festival, the Bash goes down at Pier 92 Friday evening where close to 30 Big Apple burger slingers will duke it out in a beefy battle for the coveted People's Choice Award. Rachel Ray is once again hosting and NY's main meat man, Pat LaFrieda is presenting the event. nycwfflogoLast year's winner (and 2011's), Josh Capon of Burger & Barrel, is back in the mix and looks to make it a three-peat while the judge's top pick from 2012, Ai Fiori, is in it to win it as well. The big omission from this year's Bash is Spike Mendolsohn whose Good Stuff Eatery was the District's lone representative in 2012, as the rest of the lineup is made up of almost exclusively NYC joints and chefs with the occasional Food Network personality sprinkled in. But while there are no native-D.C. spots participating this time, there are two with locations that we're plenty familiar with in our fair city: Shake Shack and Bobby Flay's Burger Palace. Using all of our math skills (and an abacus or two), we determined we'll have to consume 10 burgers an hour if we hope to eat each participant's offerings. And while we rarely doubt our ability to devour mass amounts of beef, we've made a "Top 10 Must Eat" list, in case our capacity is not what we hope. Shake Shack, of course, makes the cut as does Ai Fiori, B&B and, yeah, we'll throw Flay in there too. In addition, we've targeted CraftBar, Distilled, The Lion, Spice Market, Burger Joint and one of our favorites from last year, Schnipper's. Oh and booze-- we're going to drink a whole lot of booze, too.
