Reubens, Fatty Melts & Sub Rolls [BOTMs]

Combining a tasty sandwich with a burger is ALWAYS a good idea and this month, not one, but two BOTMs feature a burger-sandwich hybrid. A third burger mixes it up with a sub roll and the fourth, as you might have guessed, is an homage to a city that is not named Washington, D.C.

Our second favorite Reuben behind Studdard.

BGR The Burger Joint

We've been on a Reuben kick recently and BGR's March BOTM helps us get our fix without cutting into any of our burger-eating time. The Reuben features corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss and 1000 Island-- throw it all on a burger and a bun and we'll overlook the fact that this thing is missing the rye. Shake of the Month: It's March and the next best thing to a boozy shake is a wannabe boozy shake. Enter: the Baileys Irish Cream shake. 9 Locations in D.C., Maryland and Virginia | | @bgrburgerjoint

bbpchicagoBobby's Burger Palace

Fresh off his People's Choice award from the SoBe Burger Bash (a Green Chile cheeseburger), Mr. Bobby Flay brings forth the Chicago burger in March. Again. What makes up the 20th consecutive non-District inspired BOTM?  American cheese, sweet relish, banana peppers, celery salt, onion, tomato and pickles. We're thrilled. 2121 K Street, NW | DC | | @bobbysburgerpal

Want buns? Tough shit, you get a sub roll.

 brb be right burger

So this is different. Ditching the bun, Be Right Burger take the beef, lettuce, tomato, mayo and cheddar and slides it in a crusty sub roll instead. We've done this before, but only when we've run out of burger buns. We've also used Wonder Bread, hot dog buns, pita bread and taco shells. (Hell, there's four more BOTM ideas right there. You're welcome, BRB). They call it the Cheeseburger SUBstitution. We call it "BRB Needs to Go to Safeway." Shake of the Month: Getting with the green this month, BRB is featuring a minted cookie crumble shake . 1820 Discover Street | Reston |  | @eatbrb

The March Mad--- ah screw it, this thing is A FATTY MELT.

Dogwood Tavern

Another sandwich burger combo and this one might just be our favorite. What we so endearingly call The Fatty Melt, Dogwood instead opts for the much more politically-correct March Madness Burger. A certified Angus beef patty gets lovingly caressed by two grilled cheese sandwiches* sending cardiologists everywhere into conniption fits. *both the bread AND cheese are your choice 132 West Broad Street | Falls Church | | @dogwoodtavern (We're always on the lookout for BOTMs. If you know of another D.C.-area joint that hooks up a monthly special burger, email us and let us know.)

    that is a brilliant idea

Meh. It’s not better than a regular patty melt, especially with all that unnecessary veg on it.

  • Burger Days

    Solution: More cheese. Less veg.

  • Jeb Gavin

But no sauteed onions? WTF. I’m just saying, the ratio of cheese to veg to meat to especially bread is out of whack.

  • Burger Days

These are made-to-order, so you can go sauteed onions, no veggies, bacon, etc. Plus you can choose the bread and the cheese. The only limit is your imagination…

finally… I had been asking Mad Fox to make this their burger creation of the week, but they never did. I had to do this at home instead and it was AMAZING!!!
