Chef Michael Mina. All this month, his restaurants Bourbon Steak in Georgetown and Baltimore's Wit & Wisdom Tavern are presenting "Mina Burger Month" featuring a selection of specials exalting that sandwich of all sandwiches.
In D.C., Bourbon Steak is hooking up a new burger every week, starting with The Forest Burger through May 9 featuring wild mushroom duxelle, boursin and pickled ramps. On Monday, May 12, the Porcetta Burger takes the stage with andouille, peppers, onions and something called master glaze. Then, from May 19-23, the Tex-Mex Burger comes to the plate topped with tomatillo salsa, queso blanco and chipotle aioli and finally, the can't-do-wrong Burger for Breakfast caps off the month-long burger party with a sunny side egg, lyonnaise potato and béarnaise available May 26-30. And since this is Bourbon Steak, the burgers in this beefy quartet don't come cheap-- each one will set you back a cool 19 bucks.
Wit & Wisdom's burgers are slightly less elusive this month, as they're available all month long at the Baltimore restaurant. Highlighting the fleeting foursome is the 'Bourbon Steak' Burger named for our favorite Richie Rich D.C. burger topped with Cabot clothbound cheddar, sour pickles and secret sauce (and yes, it's $19, too). Alson on tap is a lamb burger with confit tomatoes, pan-seared onions and tzatziki sauce ($18), a turkey burger with guac, pepper jack and harissa aioli ($16) and a falafel "burger" with tahini sauce and sundried tomatoes ($16).
BURGER MONTH BONUS: For a chance to cash in on a beef bounty, snap of photo of yourself downing one of Mina's burgers and share it on Instagram with the hashtag #minaburgers and tags @chefmichaelmina and @bourbonsteakdc or @witwisdomtavern for a chance to win a burger a month for a year at Mina's restaurants. We used the calculator and found out that's 12 WHOLE BURGERS.
This is National Burger Month, you know. Though our celebration of the beef is year-round, in May, however, we REALLY get down.
You know who else is doing the month up right?
