This month is a strange one for BOTMs. One creation isn't even a burger, another is a spin on a burrito dish from New Mexico, and we introduce a new member of the BOTM Club while a charter member teeters on the brink of exclusion.
Because throwing pineapple and ham on a burger patty and calling it Hawaiian is lame, BTS gets a standing ovation from the Crew for their take on a Polynesian burger this month. The Book 'em Danno does the beef and grilled pineapple, but rather than lame-o, plain ham, there's crispy-fried Spam plus Swiss cheese and a teriyaki aioli.

This month at the Palace, the Mulberry Street topped with mozzarella, basil ketchup, arugula and Parmesan returns to the scene. We dug last year's version. [Burger Days Review, July 2014] (On a side note, now that Bobby and the Mrs. are all but done, does Flay keep the Stephanie's All-American in the BOTM rotation? If not, maybe a D.C.-themed burger can get a little play, no?)

OK, there is no "B" in this BOTM. In fact, it's not even an "OTM." Because this sandwich from BGR – a Salmon BLT featuring Alaskan wild-caught salmon, Tzatziki sauce, bacon, lettuce and tomato – is only available until the 17th when it makes way for the seasonal lobster roll (note: also, not a burger) debuting on the 23rd. We may have to seriously reconsider BGR's inclusion in the BOTM Club...

Dogwood goes the homage route this month and breaks out a BOTM inspired by a New Mexican burrito gut bomb. The Travis from Grandma's K & I Diner, a hole-in-the-wall dive in Albuquerque, is a giant beef and been burrito smothered in green and red chili and fries. Dogwood's take on the thing, the Albuquerque Burger, is a ground beef and chorizo burger topped with shoe string fries, cheddar cheese and green chili sauce. Works for us.

And then there were five. This month, we're adding another member to the BOTM Club: Social Burger. The small Vienna joint has just started rolling out monthly burgers and in May, it's the Taco Burger. Extending Cinco de Mayo to a full 31 days, the BOTM has a poblano-and-red-onion seasoned patty with your choice of salsa, pickled red onion, lettuce, tomato and queso fresco.

(We're always on the lookout for BOTMs. If you know of another D.C.-area joint that hooks up a monthly special burger, email us and let us know.)
