It’s February Which Means It’s Time Again for Mardi Gras Burgers

More than any other holiday outside of Thanksgiving, Mardi Gras brings out the burgers. This month, we've got three Louisiana-themed BOTMs, an early jump on St. Patrick's Day plus one with a taste of the Philippines.

Burger Tap & Shake

Last year, BTS went with a po' boy in honor of Mardi Gras and this time, they're hooking up a muffuletta-burger hybrid. The Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler tops the beef with salami, ham, mortadella, mozzarella, provolone, olive salad and Louisiana hot sauce aioli. We'd be more than willing to toss some beads at this one. 2200 Pennsylvania Ave NW | 4445 Wisconsin Avenue NW | DC | burgertapandshake.com

Bobby's Burger Palace

In keeping with the Mardi Gras-theme, Mr. Flay busts out his annual spice-crusted Louisiana Burger. The special beef patty is dressed up with pepper jack, griddled tasso ham, spicy remoulade and hot sauce. Let's hope they've improved upon the sodium bomb since last time...  [Burger Days Review, March 2014] 2121 K Street, NW | DC | bobbysburgerpalace.com

Dogwood Tavern

Back in the day, Dogwood's sister restaurant, Ragtime, had the Bayou Burger. This massive mound of meat consisted of a ground beef, pork and shrimp burger topped with blackened shrimp, Swiss cheese and a ladle of shrimp gravy. It was big. It was messy. It was delicious. The Bayou Burger has long-since disappeared from the Ragtime menu but Dogwood has resurrected it for its February BOTM– with a few tweaks. Now known as the Creole Burger, the patty is now just pork and beef, and grilled peppers and onions join the gravy, shrimp and Swiss on top but despite the changes, it still sounds like a winner to us. 132 West Broad Street | Falls Church | dogwoodtavern.com

BGR The Burger Joint

Skipping right over Mardi Gras and honoring that other drink-your-face-off holiday, BGR is going Irish now through February with The Reuben. The St. Patrick's Day-celebrating creation piles corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss and thousand island dressing. We're pretty sure it'll soak up a Guinness or two. [Burger Days Review, March 2014] 11 Locations in D.C., Maryland and Virginia | bgrtheburgerjoint.com

Ignoring both Fat Tuesday and St. Patrick's Day, Vienna's Social Burger goes with a Filipino-spin in February with the Adobo Burger. Beef gets topped with a choice of soy-and-vinegar-braised pork or chicken plus papaya relish. 350 Maple Avenue West | Vienna| mysocialburger.com   (We're always on the lookout for BOTMs. If you know of another D.C.-area joint that hooks up a monthly special burger, email us and let us know.)
