Nothing says happy birthday America like corn-battered meat and two local joints are hooking up the deep-fried goodness as part of their Independence Day celebrations.
First up, the annual 4th of July corn dogs are back at Shake Shack with the burger slinger hooking up corn-battered all-beef Vienna dogs on a stick along with sweet corn relish now through the end of the weekend. The battered weenies are $4.50 a pop and available at (almost) all D.C.-area Shacks (Tysons, F Street, Dupont and Union Station-- sorry Nats Park) as well as the Baltimore location.
Also available until Sunday, a special Blueberry Pie Oh My concrete made with vanilla frozen custard and blueberry pie.
And then there's this magnificent star-spangled monstrosity...
Mad Fox Brewing Company chef Travis Weiss has created the Amuuurican Corn Epic Burger, a burger so patriotic it needs to be saluted before each bite. Forget the dogs, Weiss instead corn batters a half-pound ground patty before tossing it in the fryer and then topping the resulting hunk of deep-fried beef with cheddar, ketchup, bacon, relish, yellow mustard and diced Spanish onions. Finally, the whole burger-plus-condiment-cart combo is served between two thick slices of brioche toast. Who needs a state fair when you've got a Falls Church brew pub?
The Amuuurican Corn Epic Burger is available today and tomorrow (Friday) at Mad Fox in Falls Church.
