The phrase "so many burgers, so little time" haunts our dreams at night. Our burger to-do list – yep, that's a thing – is a daily reminder that our quest to find the best burger around will never be over, the ever-expanding collection of future conquests taunting us each time we add another to the tally.
But when an opportunity arises to tick multiple entries off the list – and all in the span of one day – well then, we're all over it like grease on a griddle.
Enter: D.C. BRGR Bash.
The vowel-challenged battle of the beef is back for a third year, this time pitting an impressive total of 16 local joints against each other in a down-and-dirty throw down for burger supremacy. The lineup of competitors (up six from last year) is a stellar selection of burger slingers representing D.C., Maryland and Virginia, including four past Burger Days BOTY winners.
Check it out: Willow (back-to-back BRGR Bash champion), Boundary Stone (2014 bash runner-up), 1905 (2011 BOTY winner), Burger Tap & Shake (2011 and 2013 BOTY winner), Medium Rare (BGR founder Mark Bucher – a 2012 BOTY winner), Mad Fox Brewing Company (2012 BOTY winner), Cafe Saint Ex, Big Buns, Fainting Goat, The Liberty Tavern/Lyon Hall, Plan B Burger Bar, Citizen Burger Bar, The Georgetown Grilling Society, Brickside Food & Drink, Chef Geoff's and RIS.
Now that's some pedigreed beef.
But not only has the BRGR Bash upped its burger game, but the booze scene also gets an upgrade with D.C. Brau, Atlas Brew Works, Old Ox Brewery and Old Bust Head Brewing Co. in the mix to supply the day's lubricant for all that meat. Also new this year, the battle returns to the Commonwealth's side of the river with it all going down at Arlington's Gateway Park in Rosslyn.
The whole greasy, boozy bonanza goes down in a month, so best start preparing now and make sure to reserve your space. Tickets for the 2015 D.C. BRGR Bash, set for Saturday, July 18 from noon – 6 p.m., are $29 each ($35 week of) and available as a selection of four "Burger Flights." Each flight (A - D) provides access to the bash plus tokens for four different burgers. Booze will be sold separately at $5 a pint.
