If you're down for injecting massive amounts of beef into your grill in a limited amount of time, you could be $1,000 richer by Independence Day. On Tuesday, July 3 at noon, Z-Burger in Teleytown is hosting their 4th Annual Independence Burger Eating Contest where amateur and pro eaters alike compete to see who can swallow the most burgers in 10 minutes. It doesn't get much more American than that. Or something. If you plan on getting in on this patriotic display of gluttony, you best come prepared, because if you're holding out hopes of grabbing one of the top prizes, it won't come easy. A freak man by the name of "Furious" Pete Czerwinksi is the three-time champion of Z-Burger's orgy of the beef, downing 17 last year and a just plain silly 23! in 2010. That's 40 burgers in 20 minutes over the past two years. Even we think that's fucking nuts. (Plus, dude almost threw down with another competitor in last year's event.) But if you are up to the task, you'll get quite a bounty. In addition to custom-made trophies, first place hauls in $1,000 in cash plus another $1,000 in Z-Burger tokens, 2nd gets $750 of each and third wins $500 of both. Oh ho ho, but it doesn't end there. We have it on good authority all participants will also receive a severe case of the meat sweats, a permanently-in-orbit cholesterol level and an all-expenses paid trip to the toilet soon after the competition. Not ready to take the greasy plunge? If you manage to keep hold of your appetite while watching the competition, Z-Burger is hooking up all in attendance with a free burger and other food samples.
