We brought news of Bolt Burgers' plans for the D.C area back in July and now we have word that lease negotiations are currently underway for the joint's flagship location in the District. A rep tells Burger Days that the eye-doctor consortium behind Bolt Burgers hopes to have a finalized lease for a spot at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue NW complete in the next 90 days. Plans are for 2-3 more stores in the D.M.V. after the first joint is deemed a success. While there's no timetable as of yet for the opening of Bolt, they already have a robust and detailed menu on their website. It's possibly just preliminary and we wouldn't be too surprised to see changes before they open, but we're digging the look of it so far. Bolt is definitely bringing the fancy with their burgers, offering up a choice of spice-rubbed patties (sea salt and fresh ground pepper, toasted peppercorn and herb, yellow curry, turmeric and spice and fiery chili, cumin and paprika), cheeses like Truffle Pecorino (for a whopping $2 more), local goat cheese and buffalo mozzarella, sauces including tomato and sweet basil, habanero, cilantro and lime mayo, and a selection of relishes including sweet pepper, onion and olive oil, black bean, fresh corn and onion, and crunchy Asian slaw. Even their basic burger --the Bolt Classic-- is extreme with aged Vermont Cheddar and KILLER ketchup (emphasis is all ours). You can do it yourself or go for one of their signature burgers available in beef, turkey, chicken or veggie including the Mr. Truffleupagus with sea salt and pepper, truffle Pecorino, grilled field mushrooms and roasted shallot and sweet garlic relish, the Where There's Smoke (fiery chili, cumin and paprika spice, smoked gouda and roasted pancetta) and the Boltissimo (toasted peppercorn and herb spice, buffalo mozzarella, sweet pepper, onion and olive oil relish and tomato and sweet basil sauce.) Also on the Bolt menu are grilled cheeses, salads, smoothies and sides including fries, onions rings and crunchy fried green beans. And yes, they'll be slinging the boozers (beer and wine) too.
