We've heard grumblings that the whole burger boom is over but, frankly, that's bullshit. Sure, a few spots around town have shut up shop in recent months and the rampaging river of new openings is now more a babbling brook, but D.C. is still the target for a bunch of new and expanding burger slingers. In just a few weeks, Arlington will welcome a new burger bar in Clarendon and a local chain will add to its stable of restaurants. Beyond that, we'll see more D.C. burger-making experts expanding their reach plus at least two new joints, including one serving the so-called "best tasting burger in America," plan to make their D.C.-area debut later this year. Strap on your bibs and prepare to get greasy with these new burger openings coming in 2015:

The Charlottesville-based Citizen Burger Bar had hoped to open its doors in Clarendon at the end of 2014 but delays have pushed the debut back to early February. In addition to an emphasis on locally-sourced beef from Timbercreek Farms, Citizen will have a substantial lineup of booze including cocktails, wine, rotating taps and more than 100 bottles. ETA: Early February | Citizen Burger Bar | 1051 North Highland Street | Arlington | citizenburgerbar.com

bgr_logoBGR The Burger Joint

With nine Washington, D.C.-area joints already slinging the beef, local burger chain BGR is adding to its total in 2015. Scheduled to open Thursday, February 5, in the Milestone Shopping Center in Germantown, the newest BGR will be the seventh in the state. We also hear rumors of an upcoming location at the new Springfield Town Center, too... ETA: February 5 | BGR The Burger Joint | 20940 Frederick Road | Germantown | bgrtheburgerjoint.com

Mad Fox's Epic Burgers are coming to D.C. this year.

Mad Fox Taproom

The highly anticipated D.C. spin-off of the Falls Church brew pub, Mad Fox Brewing Company, should be making its debut sometime in the next few months. Home to Epic Burger Wednesday, executive chef Travis Weiss tells Burger Days that burgers will be a focus at the Glover Park location. "[We'll] probably have multiple burgers on the menu as well as the Epics like we do [in Falls Church] now." All permits have been approved for Mad Fox's new joint which is officially in build-out mode, Weiss says. Coming: Late March – Early May 2015 | Mad Fox Taproom | 2218 Wisconsin Avenue NW | D.C. | madfoxbrewingcompany.com

The hybrid wine and burger bar, Zinburger, will still eventually open in the newly overhauled Springfield Town Center, it's just a matter of when. The Arizona-based Zinburger originally planned for a late fall 2014 opening, which turned into the first quarter of 2015 before being hit with even more delays. Unfortunately, our plans of sipping pinot and munching on fancy Zinfandel-braised-onion-topped burgers will have to wait until after the summer. The latest word on an opening date is most likely in the fall, a rep tells Burger Days. Coming: Fall? | Zinburger | 6500 Springfield Mall | Springfield | zinburgereast.com

habitburger-logoHabit Burger Grill

Habit Burger was deemed the "Best Tasting Burger in America" by Consumer Reports in 2014, beating out beef-and-bun heavyweights In-N-Out, Five Guys and a whole slew of others. (note: Shake Shack was not included in the Consumer Reports mix). A veteran of the burger game – Habit Burger originated in Santa Barbara in 1969 – the California-based chain is looking to bring its top-rated chargrilled burgers to the area this year. Habit chief marketing officer Matt Hood tells us they are "definitely planning to open in the second half of 2015" in the D.C. area. Coming: Second Half of 2015 | Habit Burger Grill | TBD | habitburger.com

btsBurger Tap & Shake

The beef, beer and boozy milkshake masters at Burger Tap & Shake are expanding past their Foggy Bottom location with a new spot slated for Wisconsin Avenue in the Teleytown area of D.C. There's no word yet on an opening date, but our Greasy Sense is telling us it'll be sometime this year. Coming: 2015? | Burger Tap & Shake | 4445 Wisconsin Avenue NW | D.C. | burgertapandshake.com

rrburgerworksRed Robin Burger Works

The fast-casual version of Red Robin, Burger Works is bringing its second location in D.C. to 19th Street. Red Robin lite's lineup has most of the burgers available at its full service restaurant but, sadly, no bottomless fries. ETA: 2015 | Red Robin Burger Works | 1028 19th Street NW | D.C. | rrburgerworks.com

smashburgerftimgbothSmashburger

Despite its failed experiment in Dupont Circle, Smashburger is showing no signs of slowing down its invasion of the D.C. area. This year alone, the Denver-based chain plans to bring another five joints to town. Slated to open in the fourth quarter of this year are locations in Fairfax (October), Timonium, Md. (November), Rockville, Greenbelt and Falls Church. ETA: 4Q of 2015 | Smashburger | Fairfax, Timonium, Rockville, Greenbelt, Falls Church | smashburger.com   And the rest...

burger21Burger 21

From the owners of The Melting Pot, Burger 21 opened way the hell out in Ashburn a year ago and the Tampa-based joint has plans for at least three more locations in the D.C.-area in the future. The local franchisee had previously been looking at Alexandria, Tysons, Fair Lakes and Rockville, but that's since been revised to Tysons, Chantilly and Reston. Currently, a rep tells us, they are "still searching for the best site for [their] second D.C.-area location." ETA: ??? | Burger 21 | burger21.com | Location: Open in Ashburn, Coming to Tysons, Chantilly, Reston

Oh, PYT, how we long to bite into one of your Elio pizza buns or deep-fried PBR burgers. Now, if only you'd hurry up and sign a damn franchisee. When we talked with Fransmart's Dan Rowe last April, he told us he thought the insane burger creators from Philly could open somewhere in D.C. at the end of 2014 or early 2015. But the latest word from a rep for the franchise development company says that, as of this month, no D.C. franchisees have yet been signed. ETA: ??? | PYT | pytburger.com | Location: D.C.

umami_burger_logoUmami Burger

Perhaps the most anticipated burger joint of them all coming to D.C., Umami Burger told Eater back in 2013 that they wanted to bring four – FOUR! – locations to the area with spots in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Fast forward almost two years and there's still no West Coast masterpieces in our faces and a rep tell us not to expect them to be anytime soon. "Umami Burger still doesn't have any firm plans in D.C.," he writes us in an email, dashing our hopes and giving us a virtual kick to the nuts. Shit. ETA: ??? | Umami Burger | umamiburger.com | Location: D.C., Maryland, Virginia
