We tried to feign some surprise at yet another new burger joint coming to D.C., but seriously, we couldn't. Coming soon to the D.M.V. (yep, all three) is Texas-based Mooyah Burgers Fries & Shakes, with a slew of locations set to open in Virginia, Maryland and D.C. over the next 10 years. Mooyah president Alan Hixon told us the company has signed a development agreement that will see 107 new restaurants in the area over the next decade. A press release says they're on pace to open over 450 in the U.S. in the same time period. (Right now there's 19, all in Texas). Mooyah is just the latest joint jumping on the "better burger" bandwagon offering up lean, additive-free beef burgers on fresh made buns. Checking out their menu, they look eerily similar to Elevation Burger and Falls Church's new Burger 7, with a fairly simple lineup featuring a standard double patty "Mooyah" burger and a single-pattied junior version. Mooyah also serves up turkey and veggie burgers, grilled cheese and hot dogs. Hixon said the joints will be coming to Calvert, Charles, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George and Saint Mary's counties in Maryland. As for Virginia and D.C., we've got inquires in on when and where those spots are scheduled to open. As soon as we get the deets, we'll let you know.
