throwdownflyerbig8.5x11FINAL Strap on your bibs and put on your stretchy pants, burger fools, Burger Week is coming up next month and this year, we're kicking it off with a big-ass party. Ushering in our beef-and-grease-filled week of red meat revelry will be the first-ever Burger Throwdown from Burger Days and Capital Meat Company. In less than three weeks, seven of the D.C. area's greatest burger creators are coming together in an epic battle of the beef to prove who's best. With a field that contains multiple Burger of the Year and Burger Battle winners, the Throwdown lineup is literally an all-star selection of the District's burger scene. Just check out this crew. There's Matt Adler (2015 BOTY winner and multiple Burger Battle champ) from Osteria Morini, Brine's John Critchley (another BOTY winner), The Source's Scott Drewno (2013 Burger Battle winner), Ryan Hackney from Bibiana, Keith Long of Harvest Wood Grill, Alfie's Alex McCoy (creator of our current burger crush) and The Commodore's Travis Weiss (another 2015 BOTY winner). Yeah, it's a pretty ridiculous collection of ground beef gurus. The chefs will be competing for affection from both a panel of judges as well as the crowd, with each selecting their favorite burger slinger. Winners will claim ultimate burger bragging rights and the rest will hang their heads in greasy shame. It's going to be awesome. All of this goes down at The Commodore on Sunday, May 15 from 3 - 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $75 and are good for the seven Throwdown burgers and six beers from booze sponsors Denizens Brewing Co., Fair Winds and Right Proper. Best of all, proceeds from the Throwdown will benefit Deaf-REACH, a non-profit working to maximize the self-sufficiency of deaf and hard of hearing people who need special services. But wait, there's more! This is the kick-off for Burger Week after all, so the day after the event, on Monday, May 16, the chefs' Throwdown burgers will be available at their respective restaurants for the next seven days. Plus, a portion of each Throwdown burger sold that week will go to Deaf-REACH. Eating burgers, helping out a great cause – it's pretty much the greatest thing ever. Tickets are available at bit.do/bbthrowdown but there's a limited number available and they're expected to sell out fast. SO GET ON IT.
